Home » Blog » North Carolina Haunts: An In Depth Look

NorthCarolinaHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Bonnie Griffin of The 13th Acre, to discuss what's new at The 13th Acre for the 2024 Halloween Season!

What's new at The 13th Acre for 2024? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?

For 2024, we have lots of new attractions! Since 2023 was our first official year open as a fully focused haunted attraction, we were excited to add lots more for Fall 2024.

What are you most excited about for the 2024 Halloween Season?

Folks are just learning about our attractions so we are excited to see lots of new faces this Fall as well as reveal our two most unique scenes yet: Siberian Scream and Club Hell.

What differentiates The 13th Acre from other local haunts in North Carolina?

We have two separate, large attractions included in one ticket: Coffin Creek and Forbidden Acre. Guests can enjoy Coffin Creek and then take a break in the Midway for food, drink, games, etc. before entering the 2nd attraction, Forbidden Acre. We also have nice restrooms and Free parking!

How long has The 13th Acre been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about The 13th Acre's history?

The 13th Acre used to be a small trail at the back of the property as part of a larger agritourism operation with corn maze, animals , and pumpkins. In November of 2022, we closed the farm for 10 months and built a brand new haunted attraction that has taken over the property!

What's your favorite experience since opening The 13th Acre?

The haunt community has been so welcoming to us. We have met so many great people through networking with other haunt owners and actors. Once we open our doors in September, we of course love seeing customers run, scream, and laugh as they create new memories each Fall.

How long is a typical haunt experience at The 13th Acre from start to finish?

The attractions take 1 hour to complete. Our Midway is very large with lots to do as well so most guests stay for about 2 hours.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say The 13th Acre is? Why?

We create and design our attractions for optimal scares and expect our actors to bring their best energy every night. We do witness guests who are too scared to make it through every night but our goal is to scare even the toughest of customers!

Does The 13th Acre's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?

Many years ago, troops in battle passed through the property, especially following the creek that winds its way throughout the farm. We have been told stories of shallow graves created too close to the creek bed that would rise up when the creek swelled from torrential rains, thus the name Coffin Creek.

What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?

I have always loved the haunted house industry and I especially enjoy seeing people have a great time. Opening a haunted attraction was a natural fit for me! I have been impressed with the way other haunt owners have shown their support and the overall comradery in haunt community.

How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance The 13th Acre?

We are always interested in enhancing our attraction, and special props as well as animatronics play a big role in helping us with this enhancement.

Can The 13th Acre accommodate large groups? How many people can experience The 13th Acre together as a group?

Yes, we can accommodate large groups. We ask that guests let the entrance staff know if they wish to stay together as a large group.

Does The 13th Acre offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?
