Located on Red Mountain in Rougemont, just north of Durham, sits Castle Mont Rouge. Robert Mihaly, an American sculptor, designed the castle. Mihaly was known for his work at Duke University and the National Cathedral, as a private residence and country studio. The castle was abandoned in 2006 and is rumored to be extremely creepy and may even have some spirits lingering on the property. Some sources say that Mihaly's wife died and he was too depressed to go on with his creation. Other sources say his wife is still very much alive, but the two just divorced. This makes it a wonder if the castle is really haunted or not. One thing is for sure, just by the looks of it, I'm certainly not visiting at night!
