The North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of some “former inhabitants." One witness, a former night watchman, had reported hearing strange noises, including screaming, doors slamming and books hitting the floor in the third-story library, breaking glass, keys jingling, and the sound of phantom footsteps. The same witness also reported that the manually-operated elevator went up and down by itself. Another witness said he heard eerie sounds coming from the the committee room off the Senate chamber, and when he went to take a look, he spotted an apparition which dissolved.
